چکیده

In the running of a genetic algorithm, the population is liable to be con ned in the local optimum, that is the metastable state, making an equilibrium. It is known that, after a long time, the equilibrium is punctuated suddenly and the population transits into the better neighbor optimum. We adopt the formalization of Computational Ecosystems to show that the dynamics of the Simple Genetic Algorithm is represented by a di erential equation focusing on the population mean of a phenotype. Referring to the studies of di erential equations of this form, we show that the duration time of metastability is exponential in the population size and other parameters, on the one dimensional bistable tness landscape which has one metastable and one stable state.

Punctuated Equilibria in Simple Genetic Algorithms for Functions of Unitation

During a genetic search, the population may get stuck in a local optimum. The population can escape from this after a long duration. This phenomenon is called punctuated equilibrium. The punctuated equilibria observed in nature and computational ecosystems are known to be well described by diffusion equations. In this paper, simple genetic algorithms are theoretically analyzed to show that they...

An Efficient Predictive Model for Probability of Genetic Diseases Transmission Using a Combined Model

In this article, a new combined approach of a decision tree and clustering is presented to predict the transmission of genetic diseases. In this article, the performance of these algorithms is compared for more accurate prediction of disease transmission under the same condition and based on a series of measures like the positive predictive value, negative predictive value, accuracy, sensitivit...

NK Landscapes Difficulty and Negative Slope Coefficient: How Sampling Influences the Results

In this paper, we study the exploration / exploitation trade-off in cellular genetic algorithms. We define a new selection scheme, the centric selection, which is tunable and allows controlling the selective pressure with a single parameter. The equilibrium model is used to study the influence of the centric selection on the selective pressure and a new model which takes into account problem de...

Many natural phenomena evolve intermittently, with periods of tranquillity interrupted by bursts of activity, rather than following a smooth gradual path. Examples include earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, solar flares, gamma-ray bursts, and biological evolution. Stephen Jay Gould and Niles Eldredge have coined the term ”punctuated equilibria” for this behavior. We argue that punctuated equilibr...
